Wear those caps and shades,&lt;br /&gt;use sunblock, and remember to drink plenty of water.   :)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the time of year that we are working on the Federal grants&lt;br /&gt;known as the Consolidated Application.  The funds we receive from &lt;br /&gt;the Federal grants is used to strengthen the programs of our school &lt;br /&gt;through such activities as teacher training and the purchase of &lt;br /&gt;materials for students. Students in grades &lt;br /&gt;3 through 8 have completed the survey in their &lt;br /&gt;homerooms.  The school staff is completing the &lt;br /&gt;survey on-line. Parents have been asked to complete &lt;br /&gt;a paper form of the survey at home.  A letter of &lt;br /&gt;explanantion and directions have been sent home &lt;br /&gt;with students in all grades.  The surveys are due &lt;br /&gt;back to school no later than February 15.  They should &lt;br /&gt;be returned in the large white envelope and sealed &lt;br /&gt;for confidentiality. Results of the survey will be &lt;br /&gt;sent to the school later this year. Even with the fun and excitement of &lt;br /&gt;snowfall, the Math Resource class continues on its quest to develop &lt;br /&gt;math skills contained in the Delaware State Standards. We will solve algebraic expressions related&lt;br /&gt;to absolute value.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the coming weeks we will cover:&lt;br /&gt;1. addition and subtraction of fractions with common and uncommon denominators&lt;br /&gt;2. multiplication of fractions&lt;br /&gt;3. division of fractions&lt;br /&gt;4. understanding and reporting information from graphs&lt;br /&gt;5. estimation&lt;br /&gt;6. measurement&lt;br /&gt;7. geometry—comparing characteristics of 2 and 3 dimensional figures&lt;br /&gt;9. algebra—proportions&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A variety of activities will be used in the classroom to present the topics. Computers are used in skill development and for reinforcement. Students are graded using formative and summative assessments.
